Downsizing : Moving from 2400 sq. ft. to an Apartment

When we got married, we lived in a 1000 sq. ft. house. We lived there for about 2 years, but it wan't enough space. Then we moved into a 1800 sq. ft house. Again, not enough for us. We moved into a 2400 sq. ft house. When we moved to North Carolina, we bought a gigantic home on a golf course because we fell in love with the neighborhood. This time, it was over 3000 sq. ft.

It was at this point that we came to our senses. Our 3000 sq. ft. home didn't have furniture in several rooms. We only had one child at home by this point, and only used two of the four bedrooms. Our heating bills were through the roof.

Now, we're reversing course. Due to a job change, we moved into a smaller 2400 sq. foot home. Our youngest child is heading off to college this year and we've realized that it's time to downsize into an apartment.

We've also realized that consumption doesn't lead to happiness. As we research and plan for the retirement phase of our lives, we now believe that it is essential to live vastly below your means.

As we start to declutter our home and prepare for this change, we'll take pictures along the way and document our process.
